OUTLOOK

Haskell takes over at Savanna after six seasons as assistant to Greg Hoffman at Western. The day after Haskell started, the Rebels began working on defense, which was the pride and joy of Haskell and Hoffman at Western. “There’s nothing fancy to what we do,” Haskell said. “We’ll have a disciplined offense and good shot selection. We work on defense 90% of the time in practice, and that will give you an idea of where we are coming from. Defense wins championships. We’re not good at it now, but it’s our emphasis.” The Rebels can score, too. Priest averaged 11 points last season, but has hit 40 during summer league games. “He’s a well-kept secret,” Haskell said. Priest and Watson (12 points, 10 rebounds last season) are the Rebels with substantial varsity experience. Haskell said he expects his four sophomores and three freshmen on the varsity to step in and contribute right away. “We’ll be the youngest team in the county,” Haskell said. “Our two seniors are as good as any seniors in the league. We’ll be a dark horse. Realistically, I’ll have to say we can finish third.”
