OUTLOOK

This will be Shannon’s final season at Woodbridge--his 11th varsity season after starting the program when the school opened in 1980. After the season he will join his family in Orlando, Fla., where his wife, a Disney marketing executive, was transferred. Shannon has built a strong program that has reached the Southern Section title game in three of the past five seasons, winning the 1987 Southern Section and State titles. The Warriors, who finished second in the Sea View League and lost to Artesia in the Division II-A title game last season, appear to be strong again, despite the loss of two second-team All-Division II players. The consensus among the league’s coaches is that Woodbridge should finish second to Tustin. Loewe, who returns at point guard, shot 47% from three-point range last season, and although Murphy is the only other returning starter, Twer and Sunderman each had significant playing time. Furthermore, the Warriors have four solid players from the junior varsity, which was undefeated in league last year. “The other teams in the league all have a main returning guy--kids who will have a good scoring average,” Shannon said. “I prefer to beat those people with balance.”
