OUTLOOK

The Tritons have had a tough time in the league recently, but there are signs that could change. By season’s end, don’t expect the Tritons to finish among the league’s top two, however. As have most league coaches, Kerhoulas picks Irvine and Capistrano Valley for first and second places. And as do the others, he figures third place will be a toss-up among Dana Hills, El Toro, Mission Viejo and San Clemente. But don’t be surprised to see the Tritons occupying the No. 3 spot by season’s end. Only Capistrano Valley returns as many starters as San Clemente does. But here’s the bad news: The rest of the roster is made up of unproven players making a big jump to the varsity. There are five sophomores and only four seniors on the roster. Guild is the Tritons’ best player, although he is recovering from a broken foot. He averaged seven points last season. Bannister, who might be the school’s best all-around athlete, averaged 12 points and was a second-team all-league selection. Ortiz averaged five points. Size is another key weakness for the Tritons, who don’t have a player taller than 6 feet 3.
