VENTURA : Gunman Robs Theater Manager

Share

A movie theater manager making a night deposit at a Ventura bank was ambushed and robbed Sunday by a masked gunman who sprang from nearby bushes, police said.

Raymond Lee, assistant manager of the Century 8 Theatre, told police that when he arrived at the bank’s Victoria Avenue branch at 8:55 p.m., he had trained his truck headlights on the night depository because overhead security lights were out. Lee told investigators that he was carrying “a somewhat large amount of money.”

An assailant wearing a dark beanie and a bandanna around his face leaped from the bushes and startled Lee, who tried to run back to his truck but fell and dropped the deposit bag. Police said the attacker pointed a handgun to Lee’s head, then grabbed the bag just as a 17-year-old co-worker riding with Lee began screaming and honking the truck’s horn.
