Fullerton Football Assistant Accepts a Job at Arizona State

Hue Jackson, who spent the past two seasons as Cal State Fullerton’s offensive backs coach, resigned Thursday to accept a job as running backs coach at Arizona State, Titan Coach Gene Murphy said.

Jackson, who last spring was an assistant for the World League of American Football-champion London Monarchs, will work under Sun Devil Coach Bruce Snyder, who recently left California.

“It’s a great opportunity to work for a great coach at a great institution,” said Jackson, 26. “It’s a situation no one could afford to pass up.”

Jackson played wishbone quarterback for two seasons (1985-86) at University of the Pacific and spent three seasons as a Pacific assistant (1987-89) before coming to Fullerton.

He was planning to return to the London Monarchs this spring until the opportunity to coach at Arizona State arose. Snyder and Jackson spoke by phone early in the week and met Wednesday, when Snyder was recruiting in Southern California.

“This is something I didn’t expect to happen,” Jackson said. “The opportunity to restore ASU to where it once was and face the challenges Coach Snyder faces, that’s something I want to be part of.”
