COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Christ College Irvine Wins on 3-Point Play

D’Andre Brown had a three-point play with 22 seconds left to help Christ College Irvine to a 73-71 victory over Azusa Pacific in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday in Irvine.

Christ College Irvine led, 2-0, and didn’t lead again until Brown’s basket and free throw. Azusa Pacifica had two chances to win on three pointers in the final seconds but missed.

Brown finished with 20 points and Jason Vaughn, Brian Hazelwood and Aaron Clasen had 10 points each for Christ College Irvine (10-10, 2-2). Azusa Pacific is 10-9, 1-1.

In another Golden State Athletic Conference game:

Southern California College 80, Westmont 76--Mike Jones made a pair of free throws with four seconds left in overtime to give Southern California College its final margin.

Rick Witmer scored a game-high 26 points for visiting Southern California College (15-4, 2-1). Mike Henjum had 11 points and Edmond Johnson added 10 for SCC. Mike West had a team-high nine rebounds for SCC.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Christ College Irvine 85, Azusa Pacific 54--Nancy Geisler scored 25 points for Christ College Irvine (15-2, 4-0), which has won 10consecutive games. Teammate Wendy Johnson had eight rebounds; Stacy Kirch had seven assists.

Rolynn Rienstra scored 12 points for Azusa Pacific (7-11, 1-3).
