COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Women Rally to Edge Fresno State
Cheryl Hightower, who had returned to the game 18 seconds earlier, hit her only two free throws of the game with five seconds left, giving Cal State Fullerton a 68-67 victory over Fresno State in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Titan Gym.
The Titans trailed, 61-52, with 4 minutes 31 seconds left, before Joey Ray hit a pair of three-pointers and Claudette Jackson scored four points during a 10-1 spurt, which tied the game, 62-62, with 3:04 left.
Ray had 15 for Fullerton (7-7, 2-3), which won its second in a row after a six-game losing streak.
In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:
Hawaii 95, UC Irvine 55--The Anteaters lost for the sixth consecutive time, despite a career-high 22 points by sophomore guard Karie Yoshioka at the Bren Center.
Irvine (4-11, 0-6) scored the game’s first four points before the No. 17 Rainbows (12-2, 3-2) took the lead for good with a 12-0 spurt.
