School: Fullerton High

Sport: Basketball

Position: Forward

Class: Senior

After a spending her junior year at Valencia, McLane has returned to Fullerton, where she played as a freshman and sophomore. Her presence has boosted the Indians’ hopes to end La Habra’s hammerlock on the Freeway League title. The transition hasn’t been entirely smooth--Fullerton Coach Wendy Vrolyk said McLane didn’t assert herself at first--but the 5-foot-10 forward seems to grow more comfortable with each game. Tuesday, she had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 50-47 victory over Troy; Thursday, she had 29 points and 14 rebounds in a 60-43 victory over Sunny Hills. “She’s just a tremendous athlete,” Vrolyk said. “She’s tall but she’s extremely quick. She’s definitely the best athlete in the league.” The two victories and a probable one today over fourth-place Sonora will set up a first-place showdown with La Habra Thursday at Fullerton. The last time the two teams met, La Habra won in overtime, 50-47.

Other top performers:

Olivia DiCamilli, who had 28 points for Costa Mesa in a 84-31 victory over Trabuco Hills, has 1,515 points in her three-year career. Paula Tezak (La Habra, 1980-84) holds the county career-scoring record of 2,276.

Shannon James, who scored 22 points in each of Rancho Alamitos’ Garden Grove League victories--75-29 over Bolsa Grande and 82-43 over Pacifica.
