Gary Stephens has been named football coach at Bolsa Grande High, Athletic Director Al Hall said Monday.
Stephens, 37, was the team’s defensive coordinator last year under Jim Wright, who was dismissed after being with the program one season.
Stephens coached high school football for 11 years--mostly in Las Vegas--and was the offensive line coach at UNLV two years. He also has been an assistant coach at Citrus College and Mt. San Antonio College.
He takes over a team that was 1-9 overall last season, finishing last in the Garden Grove League with an 0-7 record.
“There’s definitely going to be a challenge there,” said Stephens, who teaches physical education at Jordan Intermediate School in Garden Grove. “There are some good kids there who want to have some fun, and I want to have fun with them.”
