From Staff and Wire Reports

J.R. Rider, Nevada Las Vegas’ leading scorer, has been declared ineligible by university officials after they determined he did not pay his own bail when arrested during an altercation with a Las Vegas police officer.

Rider was not suspended, however, and will continue to practice during the ongoing investigation, said UNLV’s athletic director, Jim Weaver. Rider will have to make restitution on the $200 bail before UNLV can apply to the NCAA for his reinstatement. He could be eligible by the team’s next game, Thursday against UC Santa Barbara.

Rider’s bail receipt from his Jan. 24 arrest showed the bail was paid by Ron Allen, an academic adviser. Allen, who contended previously that Rider paid his own bail, reportedly resigned after a meeting with university officials.
