Avocado League

Carlsbad 77, Rancho Bernardo 56--No. 4 Carlsbad (17-6, 11-0) made 14 of 16 shots (87%) in the first quarter and bolted to a 31-16 lead. Chad Nelson scored a game-high 19 points, including three three-pointers in the opening period, and Kewan Shariff scored 18. Andy Reed added 17 points. Kirk Hipple and David Santos scored 12 apiece for Rancho Bernardo (14-8, 7-5).

San Marcos 50, San Pasqual 47--Sophomore Brian Baum (18 points, seven rebounds) tied the game with a three-pointer and iced it with a free throw. Horace Corey added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights (2-9, 5-14). Ernie Silva led San Pasqual (9-13, 6-5) with 14 points.

El Camino 62, Ramona 44--Chris Dade led a balanced El Camino attack with 14 points and eight rebounds. Bryant Westbrook had 11 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore center Tyrone Butler added eight points, five rebounds, five assists and a blocked shot for the ninth-ranked Wildcats (16-6, 9-2). Rusty Hoss led Ramona (6-13, 2-9) with 17 points.

Escondido 56, Oceanside 49--Damian Cephas scored 16 points on seven of nine shooting and Mike Frank added nine points to lead Escondido (3-8, 8-12). Carl Mathis (11 points) led Oceanside (8-13, 4-7).

City Eastern

Morse 59, Patrick Henry 36--Edwin Charles scored 22 and Byron Steele had 13 to lift Morse (15-5, 5-1), which held a 33-15 scoring edge in the first and last quarters. Jon Lonsdale led Henry (4-13, 0-4) with 11 points.

Point Loma 61, Serra 56--Serra (11-6, 4-2) led by 11 points at halftime, but Point Loma (12-8, 3-2) rallied behind 12 three-point baskets. Jason Foster, who scored a game-high 25 points, had seven three-pointers. Justin Miller scored 12 for Point Loma and Bryan Loyce added 11. Tony Etheridge led Serra with 21 points, Darryl VanCleave added 13.

Metro Conference

Southwest 58, Mar Vista 48--Forward Tony Diaz scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, DeWayne McBride added 14 points and six rebounds and Rodney Lerma scored six points and dished out six assists for Southwest (12-10, 8-4). Mar Vista fell to 9-10, 4-6.

Chula Vista 73, Hilltop 66--Lamar Bailey had a school record 19 assists and Jerome Green scored 32, including four three-point baskets, to lead Chula Vista (15-9, 8-3). Bailey added five points, and Andy Duran had 12 rebounds and nine points. Hilltop is 2-19, 1-10.

Castle Park 69, Montgomery 49--Moses Moreno scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Castle Park (10-10, 6-5), which led 21-8 after a quarter. Ray Lozano led Montgomery (4-16, 1-10) with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

City Harbor League

Marian 39, Christian 38--Jaime Coronado knocked down a three-point basket at the buzzer to lift Marian (3-15) to the upset. Coronado finished with 23 points.

City Western League

Kearny 81, USDHS 51--Ali Nayab’s 15 assists went to: Steve Marshall (17 points), Demetrius Brown (17), Tariq Salahi (17) and Damian Victor (13). It was the 15th consecutive victory for the No. 2 Komets (23-1, 6-0).

La Jolla 74, University City 71--University City fell behind by 18 points early and never caught up. Barry Waits led UC (12-8, 3-3) with 23 points. Tony Maggio and E.J. Watson had 17 apiece for La Jolla (9-11, 3-2).

Palomar League

Torrey Pines 83, Rancho Buena Vista 63--Craig Brown scored 29 points and Peter Bates had 21 to lead No. 1 Torrey Pines (20-3, 11-0). Eddie Montalvo added 11 and Steve Lemery 10. Scot Pollard scored just six points, but had 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots. James VanderVeur had 10 for RBV (8-16, 1-10).

Vista 100, San Dieguito 61--Shane Jager scored 19 and Nils Michals 17 to lead No. 5 Vista (15-7, 9-2). Dave Dillon added 15 points and Jason Barnes 11. Vista hit the century mark for the third time this season when Mike Vandling (nine points) made a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining. David Demian led San Dieguito (10-13, 3-8) with 13 points.

Poway 80, Orange Glen 40--Kyle Milling got No. 6 Poway (18-7, 7-4) off and running to a 43-20 halftime lead with 20 of his game-high 25 points. Brian Morsch led Orange Glen (2-19, 0-11).

Fallbrook 67, Mt. Carmel 62--Chris Miller scored 10 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and No. 10 Fallbrook (16-7, 6-5) made eight of nine free throws in the final period to upset No. 8 Mt. Carmel (14-8, 7-4). Steve Pack had 11 rebounds and 16 points. Fallbrook made 19 of 24 free throws. Scott Schoenwald had 20 and Jason Sammons 15 for visiting Mt. Carmel.

Nonleague

Lincoln 82, Mira Mesa 66--Lincoln (16-8) and Mira Mesa were tied at 30 when Lincoln ran off nine points to close the half and six to start the third quarter. Hosa Baker led a balanced Lincoln attack with 16, Berry Randle added 15 and Scott Hammond had 14. Matt Morris led Mira Mesa (14-8) with 15 points, Ryan Cunningham scored 14 points, 10 under his average.

Madison 64, Crawford 53--Shane Lantz scored six of his 14 points in the second quarter for Madison (13-10, 5-1). Jason Cordell also had 14.

Mission Bay 65, Clairemont 53--Chris Smith scored 16 points on seven of 12 shooting and snatched eight rebounds for Mission Bay (7-15). Danny Bos, in his second start, had 15 points and five assists. Clairemont fell to 7-12).
