PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Vanderputten’s Triple Double Leads Trabuco Hills to Victory

Senior center Gavin Vanderputten had a triple double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots as Trabuco Hills defeated Century, 65-45, in a Pacific Coast League boys’ basketball game Friday at Trabuco Hills.
Trabuco Hills (20-5) finished as league champions with a 10-0 record. Corey Klinke scored 10 points and had seven rebounds and five blocks for Trabuco Hills.
In other Pacific Coast League games:
Laguna Beach 74, Laguna Hills 72 (OT)--Darren Gravley scored 25 points as Laguna Beach (14-10, 4-6) won in overtime. Aaron Cook scored 26 points for Laguna Hills (9-13, 2-8).
Estancia 65, Costa Mesa 52--Jim Faulkner scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Estancia (20-6, 8-2).
In Academy League boys’ basketball:
Liberty Christian 102, Heritage Christian 69--Toby Curto had 32 points and Mike Hoggatt 27 points and 22 rebounds as visiting Liberty Christian improved 16-6, 6-2.
Calvary Chapel 86, Southern California Christian 60--Jacob Guild had 18 points, Sabe Younger added 17 and Chase Lubbock 16 points and 13 assists as Calvary Chapel (18-5, 11-1) assured itself of the league championship. Scott Williams scored 27 for Southern California Christian (7-15, 4-8).
In Empire League boys’ basketball:
Esperanza 53, Cypress 37--Matt Kordik scored 21 points for Esperanza (17-9, 9-1), co-champions in league with Los Alamitos. Randy Wilson added 13 points for the Aztecs.
Katella 67, El Dorado 58--Nick Roditis scored 22 points and Lee Jones 19 for Katella (10-12, 5-5), which clinched third place with the victory. Mike Johnson made three three-pointers, giving him a school-record 50 for the season, and finished with 17 points for El Dorado (13-12, 4-6).
In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:
Kennedy 73, Los Amigos 38--Kennedy (19-6, 14-0) cruised to the league championship behind Pat Kunz and Jeff Cummins, who combined for 27 points. The game, originally scheduled for Kennedy High School, was played at Los Amigos (7-15, 5-9) because of a power outage at Kennedy.
Rancho Alamitos 84, Garden Grove 77--Second-place Rancho Alamitos (13-10, 10-4) won despite 32 points by Garden Grove’s Cornel Archer. Ed Taylor scored 18 and David Guzman 13 for Rancho Alamitos. Garden Grove is 10-15, 6-8.
Santiago 74, La Quinta 61--Mike Carrasco scored 18 points and Juan Castro added 16 for Santiago (16-8, 9-5). Greg Greenfield led La Quinta (4-20, 3-11) with 21 points.
In Orange League boys’ basketball:
Western 51, Anaheim 47--The Pioneers hit 21 of 25 free throws while the host Colonists made nine of 19. Frankie Floyd had 15 points and five rebounds for Western (16-7, 7-3). Boun Malapha had 22 points for Anaheim (4-20, 1-9).
Valencia 71, Brea-Olinda 60--Marc O’Brien scored 22 points and Bill Eubanks added 17 for Valencia (13-9, 6-4) to prevent Brea from winning the league title outright. The Wildcats (12-13, 7-3) finished tied with Western and Savanna. Scott Hole led Brea with 18 points.
Savanna 47, Magnolia 34--Tobie Priest scored 23 points to help Savanna earn a share of the league title with Western and Brea-Olinda. Savanna (16-8, 7-3) outscored Magnolia, 12-2, in the third quarter to erase a 23-21 halftime deficit.
In South Coast League boys’ basketball:
Capistrano Valley 80, Dana Hills 52--Tom Airey scored 18 points, 15 of them on three-point shots, and Corey Kost added 17 as Capistrano Valley (23-3, 10-0) finished an unbeaten league season. Justin Hinsey scored 13 points for Dana Hills (2-21, 1-9).
Irvine 77, San Clemente 57--Jado Lee had 21 points and seven rebounds for Irvine (8-2). San Clemente fell behind, 12-2, in first quarter then gained a 19-16 lead in the second quarter. The Vaqueros held San Clemente scoreless for three minutes of the second quarter to lead 38-24 at halftime. Marcus Guild had 24 points for San Clemente (8-16, 2-8). Teammate Matt Ortiz added 22 points.
In Academy League girls’ basketball:
Liberty Christian 40, Heritage Christian 22--Jen Caurso had 19 points for Liberty Christian (11-11, 4-5).
In Arrowhead League girls’ basketball:
Calvary Chapel Santa Ana 84, Southern California Christian 13--Sunshine McFarland scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds for league champion Calvary Chapel (18-3, 12-0). Calvary Chapel, ranked No. 4 in Division IV-A, also got 17 points and 11 rebounds from Blythe Linse. Freshman Sarah Younger added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
Rancho Alamitos 91, Garden Grove 44--Anita Stecker scored 20 points and had 16 rebounds as host Rancho Alamitos (17-2, 14-0) finished league play undefeated. Rancho Alamitos led, 22-2, at the end of the first half. Garden Grove was second in league at 11-3.
Pacifica 52, Bolsa Grande 39--Erin Asari scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, for Pacifica (10-14, 8-6). Linn Quach led Bolsa Grande with 14 points, including four three-pointers.
