Armando Solis and Ramon Camacho each scored two goals as Anaheim defeated Western, 6-1, and clinched the Orange League championship in a boys’ soccer match Friday at Anaheim High.

Anaheim (12-1-10, 7-0-2 in league), which shared the league championship with Brea-Olinda last season, won the title outright this season. Valencia (5-1-3) finishes second and Brea-Olinda (4-2-4) is third.

Friday, the Colonists had an easy time against Western, gaining a 4-0 lead by halftime. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Anaheim Coach Joe Chavez took his starters out and sent in the second string.

Anaheim struck early in the match with Solis, a senior forward, scoring in the first minute on an assist from Jaime Garcia. Teammate Angel Gonzales then scored eight minutes later, giving the Colonists a 2-0 lead. Solis added another goal 24 minutes into the half as the Colonists had no trouble working the ball into Western’s territory.

Chavez, who is in his second year of coaching the Colonists, said his team is in good shape for the upcoming Southern Section playoffs. Last season, Anaheim reached the second round of the 2-A playoffs before losing to El Dorado.

“During the rain, we’ve been doing indoor workouts and it has helped,” Chavez said. “We did what we expected to do today.”
