Al Tassi, former All-Coast center at the University of Santa Clara, and a successful football coach at Loyola High in Los Angeles and the University of San Francisco, died Thursday at the age of 85.
Tassi, who never wore a helmet when he played, was voted to the East-West Shrine game’s team of the first half century.
A Mass will be said Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia, with burial at Resurrection Cemetery in San Gabriel. Tassi is survived by a son, Paul, and five grand children.
