Another team with a good core of returners. Anderson was 4-4 with one save and a 3.30 earned-run average last season. Basurto hit .417 with 13 runs batted in. Muller hit .337 with two home runs and 19 RBI. Vargas hit .286 with 10 RBI and was solid in the field. Belavic played well through the first eight games, then suffered a broken wrist. “We have returners back at key positions,” McNary said. “So we’re strong there, at least in terms of having returning starters.” Those guys can probably be counted on, then come the questions. The Friars have depth in pitching, but only Anderson has experience. He probably will start as often as his arm will allow. Cullen, Morinaga and Ramirez will likely fill in between Anderson’s starts. “Adam is going to have to have a good year, no doubt about it,” McNary said. “He’ll probably get every other start when league begins. But some of the new guys will have to come through.” The infield is solid up the middle, but has newcomers at the corners. Muller is a threat at the plate, but a novice behind it.
