In other Division I games:

Mt. Carmel 88, Southwest 51-- Scott Schoenwald scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds to lead No. 3 Mt. Carmel (17-9). Derek Wessel scored 16 points and Chris Goode had 15. Mt Carmel held a 56-27 rebounding edge. Mt. Carmel outscored Southwest in the second quarter, 36-13, after Southwest discarded its spread offense. Southwest (13-13) had five first-half field goals, going the first 16 minutes with 10 points from the field and 12 from the free-throw line.

Vista 96, Mt. Miguel 62--Fifth-seeded Vista (16-10) hit 13 three-pointers, five by Jason Barnes (30 points) and four by Shane Jager (21). Nils Michals added 17 points for Vista, which took a 14-point lead in the first quarter and was never threatened. Marcos Gallardo scored 17 for Mt. Miguel (11-15) and Mike Clymer added 16.

Fallbrook 65, Granite Hills 52--Chris Miller scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Chad Lemons added 14 points and seven rebounds for sixth-seeded Fallbrook (19-8), which was tied at halftime but outscored Granite Hills by 10 in the third quarter.

Division II

Valhalla 71, San Pasqual 55--Led by senior Darrick Freeman’s 18 points--all in the second half--and 16 rebounds, fifth-seeded Valhalla (21-7) turned back defending Division II San Diego Section champion San Pasqual (11-16). Also for the Norsemen, sophomore Beau Sager scored 16 points and had six assists and junior Jim Highburger contributed 12 points.

David Durst and Ernie Silva led the Golden Eagles with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Durst had four three-pointers, and Silva added three.

El Camino 87, Grossmont 45--Bryant Westbrook scored 17 points and grabbed nine rbounds to lift No. 5 El Camino (20-6). Tyrone Butler (eight rebounds) and Sky Harrison scored 12 apiece, and Trey Crayton added 11. El Camino outscored Grossmont (13-13) in the third quarter, 23-0, after holding a 41-27 halftime lead.

Carlsbad 87, Ramona 41--Chad Nelson scored 19, leading four Lancers who scored in double figures. Andy Reed added 16, Ryan Demirdjian 13 and Kewan Shariff 11. Ramona (7-17) ran with Carlsbad (21-6) in the first quarter and trailed just 24-19 after one quarter, but the Bulldogs stopped running after that. Carlsbad outscored Ramona 26-6 in the second period.

Division V

Bishop’s 69, Borrego Springs 31--Bishop’s 18-3 third-quarter run broke it open. Neal Hansch (18 points) and Nelson Ackerly (11 points) led Bishop’s (16-8). Borrego Springs fell to 9-13. Mauricio Troche led Borrego with 12 points.

Christian 65, Midway Baptist 26--Decimated by injuries after a 14-2 start, fourth-seeded Christian (18-8) has been losing starters ever since. The Patriots lost their fourth starter in the first quarter against Midway Baptist when David Parris went down with an ankle injury. Senior Pat Keough, Christian’s remaining starter, scored 13 points and had five assists. Six of Christian’s players scored in double figures, including J.P. Culbertson, who led all scorers with 19 points, and had five rebounds and four steals.
