Man Fatally Shoots 3 Pool Players at Bar

A man sat down at a Pasadena-area bar early Thursday, drank a beer, lit a cigarette, then--without uttering a word--drew a handgun and opened fire, killing three pool players, authorities said.

About 15 hours later, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Juan Miramontes, 41, at a residence in the 3700 block of East Mountain View Avenue in an unincorporated area east of Pasadena. He was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held at the Temple sheriff’s station.

“All three men were shot once and all died at the scene,” said Deputy Gabe Ramirez. A motive for the 1:30 a.m. shooting at R-Place, in the unincorporated 3700 block of East Colorado Boulevard, was not determined, but robbery was ruled out because nothing was taken, Ramirez said.

The victims’ names were withheld, pending notification of their families. Authorities said two men were from Pasadena, ages 26 and 39; the third was a 54-year-old Monrovia resident.
