OUTLOOK

Davis takes over a club that had a so-so season last year but one with several returning players who could make it a contender in the tough Olympic League. “We have some good athletes and some players who have been in the program a couple of years,” Davis said. Among those are Blackwell, the steady shortstop who batted .271 last season, and Cerio (.295), who will patrol left field. Polley, who batted .420 on the junior varsity, should also provide some sock. The pitching will be handled by Tabot, who had a 3.57 earned-run average last season, and Cuellar (2.44). “I’m pretty set with those two guys,” Davis said. “They are not experienced but they are fairly talented. It’s just a question of whether they mature quick enough.” Mullen, a transfer from Long Beach Millikan who didn’t play last year, will take over behind the plate. Davis said he looks very strong. The Warriors do have weaknesses, however. “Our fielding could be a problem,” Davis said.
