OUTLOOK

While Foothill has nearly everyone back, the Comanches have some gaping holes to fill. Gone are first-team all-county players outfielder Scenetha Thomas, Canyon’s all-time home run and RBI leader, and first baseman Stephanie Carew, who hit .379 last season. Thomas is playing community college softball in Arizona, and Carew, daughter of Hall of Famer Rod Carew, is sitting out this season for personal reasons, Eddy said. Eddy also lost his top pitcher, Sara Roberts, and all-county players second baseman Dalynne Large and outfielder Maureen Del Mazzio; both have graduated. But the cupboard isn’t completely bare. Jacobs, a three-year starter, returns after posting a 10-2 record and a .60 earned-run average last season as the No. 2 starter. Also back is Lindenberg, who hit .400 with 19 RBIs and handled the duties at shortstop as a freshman. Tracy Thomas, Scenetha’s younger sister, is a left-handed pitcher who gives Eddy another dependable bat. Rudd, who hit more than .300 as a freshman in 1990, returns. Although cautiously optimistic, Eddy still concedes Foothill is the team to beat. “I think (Canyon), Villa Park and El Modena are all equal, but I don’t think anyone in league will touch (Foothill).”
