COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC’s Big Inning Backs Nelson’s Pitching

Orange Coast put together seven consecutive hits for six runs in the fourth inning and defeated visiting Saddleback, 8-0, Wednesday to stay atop the Orange Empire Conference softball standings.
Alisha Nelson (7-2) pitched a four-hitter for her sixth shutout. Sam Lutsch was two for three and drove in four runs as the Pirates improved to 12-3, 5-1. Saddleback is 10-4, 3-2.
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Cypress 7, Golden West 4--Jackie Boxley’s double drove in three runs during a five-run sixth inning as the Chargers (17-6, 4-1) stayed within a half-game of conference-leading Orange Coast.
Riverside 1, Rancho Santiago 0--Christina Wagy scored on a fielder’s choice grounder in the fifth for Riverside (10-8, 2-2). Jennifer Raworth and Shannon O’Rourke both went two for three for Rancho Santiago (7-9, 2-3).
In Orange Empire Conference golf:
Rancho Santiago 386, Riverside 395, Cypress 402, Golden West 443--Jim Spurlock shot a one-over-par 73 to lead Rancho Santiago (7-3, 2-2) at Moreno Valley Ranch.
