Hart, 30, specializes in the design and manufacture of midget and three-quarter midget cars and engines. The award is for mechanical achievement within the USAC organization.

In addition to building cars, Hart is a midget car owner-driver who was named rookie of the year in the Western States Series in 1989. An accident on “Turkey Night” that year at the old Ascot Speedway forced Hart to miss the entire 1990 season.

Hart posted the biggest victory of his career last season, beating a field of national drivers before a nationwide ESPN television audience in the second USAC race of the season at Ventura Raceway. Hart also finished among the top 10 in the 1991 season points championship.

The U.S. Women’s Olympic Rowing team is working out at Lake Sherwood in Thousand Oaks until June 1.

The team placed fourth in the 1991 World Championships in Vienna and won a silver medal in the 1990 World Championships in Tasmania, Australia.

It is led by a two-time gold medalist coach, former East German Coach Hartmut Buschbacher, and is a legitimate contender for the gold medal in Barcelona.
