OUTLOOK

The Warriors surprised some people by winning the league title last season in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year. With a team made up of Ward, the only returning letter-winner, and mostly junior varsity players, Woodbridge went undefeated in league and advanced to the Southern Section quarterfinals before losing to Chino Don Lugo. Opponents need no more convincing--the Warriors, who return virtually all their players, are the consensus favorites to repeat. Ward and Washington, both of whom are being recruited by Division I colleges, each allowed less than half a run per game last season. Ward plays outfield when she isn’t pitching and was tied for the county lead with seven home runs in 1990. Black, the third baseman who batted more than .400 in league play, is another strong hitter. Johnsen, a sophomore center fielder who was a first-team All-Southern Section selection, batted .339 and stole a county-high 37 bases.
