HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Torrey Pines Players Beat a Hasty Path Toward Victory

Share

Torrey Pines High School not only beat dusk on Wednesday, but did so at the expense of El Camino, scoring a 10-7 Pirate Classic victory.

With darkness descending, the Falcons began swinging away in hopes of making outs quickly enough to complete the inning and make official their sixth-inning comeback. It worked.

Torry Pines freshman Jeff Jarhis, who went two for four, became an “intentional” strikeout victim in the top of the four-run sixth inning when Torrey Pines Coach Frank Chambliss felt El Camino was trying to stall, which would have warranted a reversal to the fifth inning score--and a 7-6 El Camino victory. Jarhis’ strikeout came after Nate Wagner’s three-run triple. Jarhis, who had two hits, scored on a passed ball.

Mt. Carmel 9, Carlsbad 6--Mt. Carmel (3-3) broke open a 4-4 game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Both teams had 10 hits. Marty Camacho was three for three with three runs scored and one RBI for Mt. Carmel.
