HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Triple by VanWagenen Keys Crespi Win<i> ,</i> 7-1

Brodie VanWagenen’s bases-loaded triple highlighted a five-run sixth inning that led Crespi High to a 7-1 victory over St. Francis in a nonleague baseball game Wednesday at Brookside Park.

VanWagenen has driven in 11 runs in six games for Crespi (5-1).

Teammate Jeff Suppan was two for three and scored a run.

Keith Evans (1-0) yielded two hits in three scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory. Starter Jorvic Salazar struck out five and walked none in four innings.

In other baseball games:

Newbury Park 14, Dos Pueblos 3--David Lamb went three for five with three runs scored and one run batted in to lead the host Panthers (3-3) to a nonleague win.

Jeff Hook was two for three with three runs and three RBIs and Robert Fick was two for three with two runs and two RBIs for Newbury Park. Dos Pueblos fell to 2-2.

Hueneme 4, Loyola 1--Marco Grajales struck out six and scattered three hits for the host Vikings (3-3). Adam Anaya was two for three and Juan Ponce went two for four with an RBI for Hueneme, which handed Loyola (5-1) its first defeat.

Van Nuys 4, Fairfax 2--Jaime Chacon (2-0) hurled a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in an L. A. Invitational tournament pool-play game at Fairfax.

Highland Hall 14, West Valley Christian 3--David Antrim tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 for the Hawks (1-1) in a nonleague game. Antrim added a double and three RBIs.

VOLLEYBALL

Birmingham d. Grant 15-5, 9-15, 15-7, 15-2--Josh Bailey had a season-high 21 kills to lead Birmingham (4-0, 2-0 in league play) over host Grant (2-2, 0-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.

Setter Hye Kwon had a season-high 38 assists for Birmingham.

Sylmar d. Canoga Park, 15-10, 15-12, 15-6--Paul Bond had 15 kills and five blocks and Rodney Smith added 11 kills and four blocks to guide host Sylmar (1-1) to a Valley Pac-8 Conference win.

Cleveland d. Huntington Park, 15-9, 15-10, 15-10--Loc Tran had 23 kills for host Cleveland (3-0) in a nonleague match.

Antelope Valley d. Montclair Prep, 10-15, 15-7, 15-10, 15-3--Adam Tenenbaum had 15 kills for Montclair Prep (1-2) in a nonleague match.

Campbell Hall d. Flintridge Prep, 15-6, 15-13, 11-15, 16-14-- Lee Sprague led Campbell Hall (4-1) to a nonleague win with 20 kills and five aces.

Freshmen Eric Hassan and Austin Rivers had 11 kills and 45 assists, respectively, for the Vikings. Flintridge Prep fell to 3-3.

Granada Hills d. Venice 15-11, 15-11, 15-13--Greg Webb had 16 kills and Bobby Curtis added 15 to guide the Highlanders (3-0) to a nonleague win at Venice (2-1).

SOFTBALL

Hoover 7, Arcadia 1--Hoover’s Nancy Evans struck out 14 and allowed two hits in the championship game of the Glendale tournament.

Evans (7-1) did not allow an earned run. In a 6-1 semifinal victory over Canyon, Evans threw a two-hitter and struck out 13. Hoover is 7-1.

Canyon 1, Glendale 0--Junior Marianne Winchester pitched a two-hitter with two strikeouts as Canyon (5-3) finished third in the Glendale tournament. Canyon scored in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Crystl Bustos that drove in Charrisse Lightfoot.

Burbank 1, La Canada 0--Michelle Pierce pitched a one-hitter to help Burbank (5-3) finish fifth in the Glendale tournament.

Saugus 2, Trabuco Hills 0--Kerry Coudry struck out 10 and held Trabuco Hills to four hits as Saugus (10-1) advanced to the final of the Laguna Hills tournament.

Kerri Volpe went four for four with a double and one run scored and Corinne Ochoa was three for three with a double and an RBI.

North Hollywood 7, Lincoln 6--Polly Rector scattered four hits and struck out 10 to lead the host Huskies (2-0) to a nonleague win.

Rector also drove in five runs.
