ROUNDUP : Hamer Pitches No-Hitter, El Dorado Wins in Softball

Sophomore Heather Hamer pitched a no-hitter and El Dorado defeated Saddleback, 5-0, in a nonleague softball game Thursday at El Dorado.

Hamer (3-1) faced only one batter above the minimum and didn’t allow a ball out of the infield. She walked two, but the second batter she walked was picked off in the fourth inning.

El Dorado (4-2) scored an unearned run in the second inning and then broke it open with four in the sixth. Erin Brink drove in the first run in the sixth with a double and Briana Yoshina drove in the second with a single.

Desi Abrego (3-1) struck out seven for Saddleback (3-2).

In other nonleague softball:

Troy 6, Rosary 3--Jennifer Jessen (4-0) pitched four innings of no-hit relief as the host Warriors (4-0) remained undefeated.

Rosary scored all its runs in the fifth inning as Troy made six errors.

Sonora 7, Magnolia 6--Pitcher Tiffany Kind drove in Margaret Alonzo, who scored the winning run for Sonora (2-4).

Santa Ana Valley 9, Laguna Beach 8--Yessenia Orozco’s sacrifice fly drove in Maria Hernandez with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Esperanza 4, Century 1--Winning pitcher Kristin Bradshaw (3-4) had 12 strikeouts and a double for Esperanza (3-6).

Santa Ana 5, Los Amigos 3--Patty Garcia had a home run and a triple and drove in three runs for host Santa Ana (4-4).

Katella 3, Western 2 (10 innings)--Laurie Rossini scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning for Katella (5-1), which had tied the score in the fourth when Nikki Solomito singled to drive in Melissa Benbow.

St. Margaret’s 4, San Diego Francis Parker 3--Winning pitcher Colette McLaughlin (2-0) got things going in the first inning with a two-run double for St. Margaret’s (3-0).

Costa Mesa 6, Calvary Chapel 4--Rhonda Smith hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh for the host Mustangs (2-3).

In the Laguna Hills softball tournament:

Saugus 2, Irvine 1--Saugus (11-1) scored once in the fifth inning and again in the seventh to win the title game and hand Irvine (5-1) its first loss of the season.

In the Cypress softball tournament:

Cypress 1, La Mirada 0--Julie Adams’ sixth-inning double drove in Christa Faindon and Monica Jimenez pitched a six-hitter at Oak Knoll Park in Cypress.

Los Alamitos 1, Lakewood St. Joseph 0--Caroline Dolan pitched a no-hitter, striking out 10. Caroline Wilson singled in her twin sister, Debbie, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

In nonleague baseball:

Laguna Beach 5, Del Mar Torrey Pines 4--Pitcher Ryan Sauers hit a grand slam in the second inning to tie the score. Tom Ravensberg drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the eighth for the Artists (1-4).

In Angelus League golf:

Santa Margarita 176, Servite 187--Dan Donovan and Jason Hewitt each had one-over 34s for Santa Margarita at Fullerton Golf Course. Greg Johnson had a 34 for Servite.

In nonleague golf:

Trabuco Hills 399, Dana Hills 430--Mark Christensen and Mark Mignone shot three-over 75s to lead Trabuco Hills in a match played over two days at El Niguel and Coto de Caza. Scott Richardson and Dan Buchner shot 77s for Dana Hills.

Capistrano Valley 203, Corona del Mar 207--Graham Lynch shot par 35 for Capistrano Valley at Marbella.

Valencia 422, Esperanza 430--Freshman John Lee shot five-over 77 for Valencia (3-1) in a two-day match played at Yorba Linda and Alta Vista. Chris Berry shot 80 for Esperanza (6-1).

In Sunset League boys’ tennis:

Fountain Valley 14, Ocean View 4--Eddie Weiss swept in No. 1 singles for Fountain Valley (4-2, 2-0) and Corey Gibson and Eugene Chu swept in No. 1 doubles for the Barons.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Buena Park 10, Magnolia 8--Edgar Rodriguez and Naoto Hoshide swept their sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, in doubles for Buena Park (2-3).

Brea-Olinda 13, Sonora 5--The Chang brothers, Nolan and Kevin, won two of their three doubles sets for the Wildcats (8-1).

In Sunset League boys’ track:

Fountain Valley 68, Westminster 50--Mark Sanchez won the 800 meters (2:07.2) and 1,600 (4:45.4) for Fountain Valley. Westminster’s Christian Moore won the 100 (11.2), 200 (23.3) and 400 (51.0).
