COMMUNITY COLLEGES : Orange Coast Men Sweep for Swim Lead

The Orange Coast men’s team won all five events and took the lead after Friday’s opening day of the Cuesta Invitational, billed by organizers as the nation’s largest community college swim meet.

Andreas Roestenberg (1,650-yard freestyle), Jason Bourland (50 freestyle) and Chas Julson (200 individual medley) were the Pirates’ individual winners. Orange Coast also took the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays.

Orange Coast has 245 points, 84 ahead of runner-up Diablo Valley. Golden West is third with 125.

On the women’s side, Orange Coast’s Mandy Whiteman won the 500 freestyle in five minutes, 19.14 seconds and the Pirates 400 medley relay team won in 4:13.73. Orange is in second with 143 points, three behind Cuesta.

The meet concludes today.
