In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 7, Marina 2--The host Barons (5-2, 1-0) took a 1-0 lead after only two pitches in their half of the first inning. Danielle Rodriguez hit a triple down the left-field line on Stephanie Tarvis’ first pitch, and Jennifer Allchin followed with an RBI single up the middle.

The fast start continued through the first, in which Fountain Valley scored four runs on four hits and sent eight players to the plate. Carla Jacobs tripled to center with two on and two out to drive in the Barons’ last two runs of the inning.

In the fourth, Fountain Valley scored three runs on six hits. The Barons started the inning with five consecutive singles, including consecutive RBI hits by Rodriguez, Allchin and Danelle Lovetro.

Rodriguez, a transfer from Trabuco Hills, struck out six and gave up seven hits to improve to 3-1. Marci Crouch had two hits for Marina (3-3, 0-1).
