Of the six Cal State Northridge pitchers who have played, each is averaging at least one strikeout per inning.

Kenny Kendrena has 84 in 72 2/3 innings, Steven Morales 57 in 51 2/3, Kevin Kloek 49 in 47 1/3, John Bushart 32 in 32, David Eggert 18 in 13, and Tony Ljubetic two in one.

A total of 242 strikeouts in 217 2/3 innings over 23 games--an average of 10.5 a game. The Matadors have given up 63 walks, 2.7 per game. . . .

Fresno State’s Bobby Kazmirski, a former Agoura High standout, pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in Northridge’s 10-5 victory Saturday in the championship game of the Fresno tournament, giving up two hits and striking out three. In his past 11 innings over four appearances, Kazmirski, a right-hander, has given up only one earned run. . . .

Western State Conference baseball leader Pierce begins today’s action with a .317 batting average and a WSC average of 11 runs a game. Freshman left fielder Josh Smaler leads with a .389 average (28 for 72) and has 10 doubles. Sophomore center fielder Erik Martinez is batting .386 (34 for 88) and has eight doubles.

Among the four-year colleges that have expressed interest in Martinez, a formerly of North Hollywood High, are Pepperdine and Cal State Northridge.

Volleyball: Attendance at Cal State Northridge men’s matches has increased over last season when Northridge led the nation’s schools with an average of 886 in 14 matches. In five home dates before Wednesday’s match against UC Santa Barbara, Northridge was averaging 1,187.

Against either Pepperdine on Friday or UCLA on Tuesday, the Matadors could exceed their season high of 2,568, established March 1 when Northridge upset top-ranked Cal State Long Beach.

Track and field: Several Northridge athletes moved onto the school’s top-10 list in their events with their performances at the Cal State Long Beach Collegiate Classic on Saturday.

Mike Lewis won the 200 in 21.23 seconds and Tom Parker finished second in the pole vault with a jump of 15 feet 10 1/4 inches. Both moved to seventh on the list. Nate Wright moved to eighth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with his third-place time of 52.61.

The women’s 400-meter relay team of Dee Dee Small, Joy Polk, Erin Morris and Charlotte Vines won in 45.83 and moved to fifth, and Teresa Stricklin’s fourth-place effort of 143-7 in the discus moved her to sixth.

The time in the 400 relay was the fastest by a Northridge quartet since 1982.
