ROUNDUP : Edison Rallies in Late Innings, Beats Ocean View
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Matt Harrell hit a game-tying, three-run homer and Edison scored six runs in the eighth to defeat host Ocean View, 9-4, in a Sunset League baseball game Saturday.
Harrell hit his second home run of the game in the eighth inning, and Ryan Belitz added a three-run double for the Chargers (4-2, 1-0). Rich Crowe hit a home run in the sixth inning for Ocean View (6-3, 0-2).
In another Sunset League baseball game:
Huntington Beach 7, Marina 2--Jon Ward pitched a three-hitter, struck out 10 and walked two for the host Oilers (10-0, 2-0).
In Empire League baseball:
Cypress 1, Esperanza 0--The host Centurions (5-4, 3-0) scored an unearned run in the first inning and Jack Peck and Micah Stovall combined on a two-hitter.
Loara 4, El Dorado 3--Vince Carpino hit two home runs and drove in three runs for the visiting Saxons (5-5, 1-2).
In South Coast league baseball:
Capistrano Valley 7, El Toro 6--Greg Payne’s two-out infield single drove in the winning run after Brian Benner’s homer tied the score earlier in the bottom of the seventh.
In the Blue Division final of the Cypress softball tournament:
Cypress 1, Cerritos Gahr 0--Monica Jimenez pitched a four-hitter and had 12 strikeouts for Cypress (6-0), which will play the winner of the Orange Division in the championship game April 3 at Cypress High School.
In the Foothill boys’ volleyball tournament:
Foothill Wins--The Knights defeated Elsinore, 15-10, 15-10, in the championship match. Foothill’s Rich Lambourne was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
