SAN DIEGO : Stroke Victim, 85, Airlifted from Ship
An 85-year-old Seattle man suffered a stroke Saturday night on board a cruise ship 40 miles northwest of San Diego and was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was in stable condition Sunday.
The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. on the cruise ship Westward, which notified the U.S. Coast Guard, which in turn dispatched the helicopter.
The helicopter, called the Rescue Swimmer, arrived about 9:30 p.m. and the patient--whose name was unavailable late Sunday--was hoisted aboard and flown to La Jolla.
