According to the Los Angeles Times (“Crusade for Public Office in 2nd Stage,” March 22), Christian fundamentalists are making a drive for political power in San Diego County. After winning 60 out of 90 low-profile races entered (school districts, etc.) two years ago, they are targeting twice as many campaigns this year. They use code words such as “traditional family values” to disguise their real agenda of ultra-conservative fundamental precepts such as anti-abortion, anti-gun control, book banning, and opposition to birth control and pregnancy counseling in schools. This article should be a wake-up call to all voters.

If a voucher system for public education is introduced, you can be sure that the very first alternative schools to be opened will be run by evangelical fundamentalists. Then taxpayers’ money will be supporting the disintegration of the wall separating church and state in California.
