Bryan Twins Advance in Tennis Event

Bob and Mike Bryan, 13-year-old twins from Camarillo, each advanced Wednesday to the quarterfinals of the Easter Bowl junior tennis tournament at Doral Resort in Miami.

Bob, seeded second, defeated No. 11 Ron Nano of Great Neck, N.Y., 6-1, 6-2. Mike, seeded fourth, defeated Ramsey Smith of Hilton Head, S.C., 6-0, 6-2. Bob faces Alex Kim of Potomac, Md., today and Mike faces No. 7 Hugo Armando of Bradenton, Fla.

Ryan Rockabrand and Sean McGillivray of Thousand Oaks recently helped the California Junior Kings (ages 16-17) to the Midget Tier 2 national ice hockey championship in Peoria, Ill.

Rockabrand, a center, scored a goal and two assists in the championship match, a 4-3 victory over Long Island, N.Y. Eight teams from around the nation qualified for the tournament by winning regional championships.

The Regulators, a red-belt karate team from Agoura Hills, recently won a championship in the Spring Nationals in Las Vegas.

The Regulators won three single-elimination bouts to win the tournament. The team is composed of Frank Russo, Tom Luther, and Phil McGrath.

McGrath also defeated all of his red-belt heavyweight opponents to win the singles fighting national title.

Other competitors from the region were Harry Graham, who took first in black belt forms and showmanship and Anthony Onesto, third in black belt fighting.
