Amanda Basica of Rolling Hills Estates defeated Ania Blezynski of Thousand Oaks, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), in the girls’ 16 final of the Easter Bowl Junior Tennis Championships Saturday at the Doral Resort and Country Club.

Nicole London, also of Rolling Hills Estates, was defeated by Anne Miller of Midland, Mich., 7-5, 6-2, in the girls’ 18 final.

London and Miller combined for seven service breaks in the first set before Miller held in the 11th game for a 6-5 lead. London double-faulted twice and netted a forehand, giving Miller the set.

“Both of our strong points are ground strokes and returns, so that’s normal for us,” the second-seeded Miller said. “That’s why when she won the coin flip, she chose to receive.”

The second set was tied, 2-2, when Miller ran off 13 consecutive points for a 5-2 lead. After London broke that streak, Miller hit two more winners and a drop shot for a service break and the match.

“She just got in the groove and I didn’t do anything to stop it,” the top-seeded London said.

Baisca’s victory came faster than she had expected.

“I thought we were going to play three sets,” the 13-year-old said. “All the times I played her, (three times) she always comes back in the second set.”
