Cal State Long Beach Rallies to Defeat Chapman, 12-7
Cal State Long Beach scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Chapman, 12-7, Monday in a nonconference baseball game.
The Panthers (18-16) had taken a 7-6 lead by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh.
The 49ers (24-14-1), ranked 10th in the Collegiate Baseball poll, had a school-record 10 doubles, including three by left fielder Michael Case and two by first baseman Alan Burke. Case and right fielder Eddie Christian each drove in three runs.
Chapman designated hitter Chris Briones went four for five, including two doubles. He and catcher Larry Stahlhoefer each drove in two runs.
Long Beach reliever Jon Graves took over with two outs in the seventh and allowed four hits but no runs. Graves earned his first victory in three decisions this season. Steven Aviles (4-1) took the loss for the Panthers.
