Toxics Disposal
I’m confused. After reading the column (“Paint Project Leads to Costly Brush With Bureaucracy,” April 17) about the Huntington Beach woman who washed a water-soluble paintbrush in the gutter, it seems nobody has asked the ultimate question: What happened to the “toxic” empty paint can?
Why is a shopping market forced to list places where recycling is available when a paint store that sells highly toxic materials, not beer cans, has no responsibility to our society?
And what of the auto parts stores that sell oil by the case and offer no way to recycle the old oil or the can. Does it just vanish?
Or what about the engine cleaners that are washed down the drain by car buffs?
Just because these are not bright green in no way makes them less dangerous, but I guess it all depends on who does the violation.
If I were that Huntington Beach woman, I’d sue the store that sold me the paint and the brush.
I’m sure she would win.
