The Valley Interfaith Council and Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) are sponsoring a “Spiritual Awakening” today to reflect on the violence that followed the verdicts in the Rodney G. King beating case.
More than a dozen religious leaders from various faiths are expected to speak at the event, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Van Nuys. The public is invited to attend, said Ken Castro, director of development for the interfaith council.
Castro called the meeting a “spiritual gathering” to show support for “victims of the violence and those who have to now rebuild.” It will be held at Monarch Square at Los Angeles Valley College, 5800 Fulton Ave.
