The Pierce College tennis team has conceded a rain-suspended match with top-ranked College of the Desert for the Southern California junior college team championship, Coach Paul Xanthos said Saturday.
The match was halted Wednesday at Santa Barbara City College with all six Desert singles players leading, 1-0, in sets.
The match was scheduled to resume today at Pierce, but Xanthos said Desert Coach Guy Fritz changed his mind and wanted to continue play Monday at Riverside College. Xanthos declined.
Pierce’s Kasper Nielsen and Vanja Nadali will play Friday in the state doubles championships. Glendale College’s Ashot Smbatayan will compete in the state singles tournament.
