Philadelphia right-hander Tommy Greene was placed on the 15-day disabled list to give his ailing shoulder more time to recover.

Greene, who has tendinitis in his pitching shoulder, gave up four runs, five hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants in his first start in two weeks.

Chicago Cub shortstop Shawon Dunston underwent surgery on to repair a herniated disk in his back. He is out until at least until September. . . . The New York Yankees assigned infielder Mike Gallego to their Class-A Ft. Lauderdale farm club for injury rehabilitation. He has been sidelined by a bruised right heel since the start of the season.
