Jack Morris helped his hometown Minnesota Twins win the World Series last season before leaving for Toronto and a two-year contract worth $10.85 million.

Monday at Toronto, Morris faced his former teammates for the first time. Morris was unable to hold an eighth-inning lead and the Twins went on to beat the Blue Jays, 6-2, in 11 innings.

“I wanted to beat them and they wanted to beat me,” said Morris, who gave up two runs and three hits with three strikeouts and four walks in nine innings. “I love winning, I hate losing and the no-decision was a waste of time.”

Morris did not give up a hit for 5 1/3 innings and took a two-hit shutout and a 2-0 lead into the eighth before Chuck Knoblauch tied the score with a single.

The Twins, who have won eight of nine, took advantage of two errors during their four-run 11th. Kirby Puckett reached on an infield single and went to third when Duane Ward (1-2) made a pick-off throw when first baseman John Olerud wasn’t looking.

Kent Hrbek popped out, Ward hit Brian Harper with a pitch and Chili Davis singled for a 3-2 lead. Gene Larkin bunted for a single, and two runs scored when Ward threw wildly to first on the play. Larkin went to third and scored on Greg Gagne’s single.

Gary Wayne (1-1) retired all 10 he faced.

Oakland 8, Baltimore 4--Mark McGwire hit his 17th homer during a four-run first inning at Baltimore to lead the Athletics.

Rickey Henderson homered and scored three runs. The A’s scored six runs in two innings against Oriole starter Rick Sutcliffe (5-3), who had been 3-0 at home with a 1.78 earned-run average and two shutouts.

Mike Moore (5-2) gave up four runs, six hits and seven walks in 6 1/3 innings, earning his first victory since April 28.
