TENNIS ROUNDUP : Spain Gets Past France, 2-1, Reaches World Team Cup Final
Emilio Sanchez and Sergi Bruguera beat Guy Forget and Henri Leconte in singles Friday as Spain defeated France, 2-1, and advanced to the final of the World Team Cup at Duesseldorf, Germany.
Spain finished round-robin play in the Red Group with a 3-0 record and will meet Czechoslovakia for the title Sunday.
Sanchez came from behind to beat Forget, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), and Bruguera outlasted Henri Leconte, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Leconte and Forget beat Bruguera and Sergio Casal, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in doubles.
Second-seeded Judith Wiesner of Austria beat Andrea Strnadova of Czechoslovakia, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg Open at Strasbourg, France.
Mariaan De Swardt of South Africa beat eighth-seeded Debbie Graham, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and fifth-seeded Noako Sawamatsu of Japan downed Sandrine Testud of France, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
