Hesperia’s Werner Wins Speedway Race

Brent Werner of Hesperia won the four-lap scratch main event in front of 5,134 in the weekly speedway motorcycle program at the Orange County Fairgrounds Friday, his first victory at the track in three years of racing in the senior division.

Werner got the gate, was passed by Louis Kossuth on the third lap, but Werner passed Kossuth at the end of the lap. Kossuth, who lives in Brea, finished second, Scott Brant of Riverside third and Steve Lucero of Riverside fourth.

Chris Castin of Venice won the eight-lap handicap main event. John Aden of Apple Valley was second, Brant third, Mike Faria of Riverside fourth and Kossuth fifth.
