Tanya Hughes of Arizona set a collegiate record in the women’s high jump by clearing 6 feet 5 1/2 inches at the Pacific 10 Conference track and field championships at Eugene, Ore.
The 20-year-old sophomore from Lexington Park, Md., broke the mark of 6-5 set by Maryse Ewanje-Epee, also of Arizona, in 1985.
UCLA and Arizona State were tied for the men’s lead after eight events with 50 points apiece. Oregon was third with 37.
In the women’s competition, Arizona led after seven events with 49 points. Oregon was second with 43 and Washington State third with 29.
