Ross Case, the 1977 Wimbledon men's doubles champion, teamed with Phil Dent for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory over Chad Kawahara and Ted Alopio in a first-round match in the open men's doubles division of the annual Adoption Guild Charity doubles tennis tournament.

Chris Tontz and Aaron Stolpman of UC Irvine defeated teammate Brett Hansen-Dent and Mitch Bridge, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2, in another first-round match.

UCLA's Mamie Ceniza, who won the NCAA women's doubles championship Thursday, and Danielle Scott, a former Corona del Mar High standout who recently completed her collegiate career at Arizona, are the top-seeded team in the open women's doubles, which begins today.

The tournament, which has 640 teams in 24 divisions, continues Monday at several sites, with the semifinals scheduled for May 30 and the finals for May 31 at Newport Beach Tennis Club.
