Corona del Mar Wins Sailing Trophy

NEWPORT BEACH — The Corona del Mar High sailing team won the Baker Trophy Sunday, becoming the first West Coast team to win the national high school team sailing title.
The Sea Kings--Bill Ward, Sabrina Witzel and Deirdre Dunn of Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club and Josh Nichols, Alan and Betsy Carmichael and Keith Geffen of Balboa Yacht Club--finished with 10 points, one point ahead of Providence (R.I.) Moses Brown and Marin (Mass.) Tabor Academy. The victory advances the Sea Kings to the International Team Racing Championship in June in London.
Del Mar Torrey Pines finished fifth and Newport Harbor finished sixth in the six-team competition.
