Boston’s Wade Boggs left the game with a sore right elbow after striking out during the first inning. He is considered day-to-day.

Carl Venetz, the driver of the bus, has a June 17 court date to answer the summons he was issued for careless driving after the crash, said Dennis White, the New Jersey State Police trooper who investigated the accident.

Both White and investigator William Walker of the National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday they have been unable to corroborate Venetz’s claim that he swerved to avoid a tire or other highway debris.

White also said Venetz did not mention a tire in his initial account, but 40 minutes later.

“It’s obvious to me he was not avoiding something, and that he thought of that after the fact in order to lessen his liability.”
