LA MESA : Kidnaping Suspect Sought in Slaying
- Share via
Philadelphia police said Monday that a request will be made to extradite a man being held in La Mesa on hostage-taking charges so that he can be prosecuted on murder charges in Pennsylvania.
Ernest Woods, 32, is accused in the death of 65-year-old Alice Woods, who was found dead in her Philadelphia home Friday, Officer Dorothy Kersey said. The woman had been beaten about the head, and her throat had been slashed, Kersey said.
Woods, a Texas parolee and former psychiatric patient, was charged Friday with kidnaping, robbery, burglary and false imprisonment after he allegedly took his elderly aunt and uncle and their woman boarder hostage. La Mesa Police Sgt. Glorie Sacco said Woods was scheduled to be arraigned today on the charges relating to the alleged kidnaping.
Sgt. Greg Cantor said Wood recently was paroled from a Texas prison where he served time for armed robbery.
Woods remained in custody at San Diego County Jail in lieu of $1-million bail.
