Two Former El Dorado Players Sign Contracts

Two former El Dorado High School baseball standouts have signed professional contracts, El Dorado Coach Steve Gullotti said Monday.
Jay Hassel, a right-handed pitcher, signed with the Chicago Cubs. He is on his way to the Cubs’ Class-A team in Huntington, Va. Hassel played at San Diego State this spring and at Rancho Santiago for two seasons before that.
Kevin Schula, a catcher who played at Oklahoma this spring, signed with the Atlanta Braves. He will play for the Braves’ Class-A team in Idaho Falls, Ida. Schula played at Orange Coast College before going to Oklahoma.
Sara Mallett of La Habra High School has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Nevada Las Vegas, the college announced.
Mallett, who played shortstop, hit .471 with 29 runs batted in last season. She helped the Highlanders reach the semifinals of the Southern Section 4-A playoffs.
She was a two-time, first-team All-Orange County selection.
