BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Harvey Workout Pain-Free

More than a little apprehensive about throwing his first forkball since pain in his right elbow caused him to be put him on the disabled list, Bryan Harvey was pleasantly surprised when he felt no discomfort after a bullpen workout.

“You’ve always got it in the back of your mind (that it might hurt), but everything was real good,” said Harvey, who was placed on the disabled list June 7. “It’s not exactly the way I wanted it to be, but it’s been a week or so since I threw it. If it’s pretty close (to 100%), I’m going out there.”

During Matt Keough’s first trip to Scottsdale Stadium since he was hit on the head by a foul ball during spring training and required emergency brain surgery, he saw another pitcher hit by the same batter.

Keough, scouting a game between Albuquerque and Phoenix last Sunday, saw Albuquerque pitcher Chris Nichting hit on the side of the head by a foul ball while sitting in the visitors’ dugout. Nichting sustained only a bump and was able to pitch two days later. The batter in both cases was infielder John Patterson.

Contrary to comments by Boston General Manager Lou Gorman, Jackie Autry says she didn’t veto a Junior Felix-for-Jack Clark trade. She says she didn’t know about it but would have vetoed it if she had. . . . The Angels might pursue Kal Daniels, who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers. “I don’t think we’d have an interest, but I wouldn’t dismiss it . . . until something is official,” Senior Vice President Dan O’Brien said. . . . Luis Sojo (sprained left thumb) said he probably would not resume hitting for another few days. “Every day it’s getting better and I don’t want to mess it up,” he said.
