Motorcyclist Falls, Is Run Over by Cars, Police Say
A Downey man who fell off his motorcycle was killed early Thursday when several cars apparently ran over him as he lay on the roadway, sheriff’s deputies said.
James Harvey Foltz Jr., 34, was declared dead at the scene just after midnight on Camino Capistrano just north of where it meets Doheny Park Road, said Lt. Richard J. Olson.
A woman driving in front of Foltz in the southbound lanes told investigators she looked in her rear-view mirror and saw Foltz’s motorcycle fall toward the roadway. Olson said the witness saw sparks fly as the 1973 Yamaha motorcycle hit the ground.
After the woman turned around for a closer look, she saw several cars appear to run over the motorcyclist.
Investigators believe that the drivers were not able to see Foltz on the dark roadway.
It was not clear what made Foltz lose control of his motorcycle, Olson said. The accident remained under investigation, he said.
