REGIONAL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Encino-Crespi Beats Sepulveda for 10th Win in a Row, 12-4

Brad Farlow went four for four with two runs batted in to lead Encino-Crespi to a 12-4 victory over Sepulveda in an American Legion District 20 Southern Division game Wednesday at Valley College.

The game was called for darkness after six innings.

It was the 10th consecutive victory for Encino-Crespi (13-6), which trails first-place Sepulveda (15-4) by two games.

Sepulveda led, 3-0, after three innings, but Encino-Crespi took advantage of 12 walks to turn the game around.

Jeff Suppan (6-1) allowed seven hits and struck out six. Kyle Carden went two for four, scored two runs and drove in two others.

In other District 20 games:

Sun Valley 10, Glendale 1--Mike LaBrunda went three for four with five RBIs to lead Sun Valley in an Eastern Division game.

LaBrunda, who also doubled, hit a three-run home run in the second to give Sun Valley an early 7-1 lead.

Frankie Medina and Marlon McKinney each went two for three.

Woodland Hills East 7, Las Virgenes 2--Gabe Kapler had two hits and drove in two runs for East (12-6) in a Western Division game at Taft High.

Stacy Kleiner added two hits for East.

West Hills 9-8, Canoga Park 2-0--West Hills’ Rodd Simington and Michael Haugh each threw a complete-game two-hitter to sweep Canoga Park (3-12) in a Western Division doubleheader at Chaminade High.

West Hills (7-12) outhit Canoga Park, 21-4, and was led by Brian Powers’ five-for-seven performance.

Jason McLean, who hit a two-run home run in the second game, went four for seven with six RBIs. Kevin Lohman added four hits.

North Hollywood 2, Sunland-Tujunga 0--Oakwood left-hander Matt Williams threw a one-hitter and struck out five to pace North Hollywood’s Eastern Division victory at Encino Colt Field.

Williams was perfect through 5 2/3 innings before surrendering a double to Richard Lucero for Sunland-Tujunga’s only hit.

North Hollywood (8-9) scored twice in the seventh. Tyler Atwood drove in the first run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.

Nathan Wrought went two for three for North Hollywood.

NATIONAL BASEBALL CONGRESS

Valley Rangers 11, Woodland Hills Astros 2--Jim Fifer went four for four with two doubles and a home run to lead the Rangers (10-11) in a rout at Pierce College.

Fifer’s three-run home run in the second gave the Rangers a 7-1 lead.

Ron Tegland and Doug Latta each had two hits for the Rangers.

Chad Nichols of the Astros (18-9) went two for four.
